Barry C. Trent, bassoon

Barry C. Trent is a graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music. In 1985, he was the only bassoonist in the history of Peabody to receive the coveted Artist Diploma. Mr. Trent is the winner of ten competitions as soloist, including the Yale Gordon Concerto Competition at the Peabody Institute and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition. In 1984, he was the only North American to advance in the Munich International Competition.

He has performed as a soloist with the Baltimore Symphony, Cape Performing Arts Board Symphony in South Africa, Peabody, and University of Maryland Symphony Orchestras.

Mr. Trent was the Principal Bassoonist in the Cape Performing Arts Board Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra in South Africa. He has performed with the National, Baltimore, Delaware, and Richmond Symphony Orchestras under the baton of such conductors as Leonard Slatkin, Kurt Mazur, Mstislav Rostropovich, Sergiu Commisiona, and David Zinman. He is currently the Principal Bassoonist in the Baltimore Opera Orchestra.

Mr. Trent has held faculty positions at the University of the Witswatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa and Goucher College, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and at the Baltimore School for the Arts in Baltimore, Maryland. Mr. Trent is the President of the American Bassoon Company, Inc.
